Beaches in Samui
Chaweng Beach
Chaweng is a long beach busy with the highest density of accommodation. Several hotels directly front the wide white sand beach. The principal road provides numerous shops, restaurants and bars.
Lamai Beach
Lamai beach, a long sandy beach with smooth rocks dotting the shoreline. One curiosity at Lamai are the strange rock formations aptly enough called "Grandmother Rock" and "Grandfather Rock", because they are similar in shape to female and male genitals. The shops and bars behind the beach are generally basic.
Lipa Noi & Taling Ngam Beaches
Lipa Noi & Taling Ngam Beaches are quiet and remote from the commercial of Chaweng and Lamai.
Maenam Beach
Maenam Beach continues for four kilometers along the coast with several small restaurants, resorts and hotels. The majority of the islands villas are located in hills overlooking Maenam to Koh Pha Ngan views and golf course.
Bophut
This is undoubtedly one of the most charming beach spots. Bophut village is one of the oldest villages and remains a little fishing village. There are several seafront shop houses which have been converted into trendy restaurant and shop. The two kilometers white sandy beach and the calm waters of the bay make this a popular spot for relaxing. At night, the area is charming, quiet and intimate.
Big Buddha & Choengmon
Big Buddha Beach is the North eastern tip of Koh Samui and as the name suggests is home to the Big Buddha. Like Bohput, it remains a peaceful and relaxing interlude from the busy time of Chaweng.
Further eastwards is Choeng Mon beach. The area is only about 15 minutes from Chaweng but because it is in a protected cove the beach remains calm and reasonably clean. There are a few small coves and bays to be found some of which have been developed into self contained resorts.
